Committees & Commissions

As part of the Ivory Coast Committee, ALFA is resolutely committed to promoting the emergence of competitive economic centers, particularly in rural areas, to stimulate economic development and strengthen the country's food security. During key meetings such as that of MEDEFI in June 2023 and the web/seminar organized by the Prime Minister in October 2023, ALFA affirmed its support for this initiative in the presence of important personalities such as the former Prime Minister, Patrick Achi. The organization reiterated its commitment to working with French member companies to achieve these objectives.

ALFA has already provided concrete support for COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE's projects in Béoumi to promote plantain bananas, also mobilizing a coalition of French companies and institutions. This partnership extends to other sectors such as corn and soy production, with the company SOMDIAA. Faced with political changes, ALFA is seeking to strengthen its collaboration with the new Ivorian authorities, in particular for the realization of projects such as the Béoumi agropole. This approach demonstrates ALFA's continued commitment to the sustainable economic development of Côte d'Ivoire, with an openness to supporting other initiatives in areas such as livestock and dairy production.

Testimony

Pierre Arnaud, Trésorier

I spent 30 years in agribusiness in Africa, convinced of its impact on development and the creation of wealth, jobs and support for small farms and SMEs. Agricultural jobs are diversified, favoring training and high wages. However, investment in this sector is often poorly financed, with local commercial and development banks showing little interest, and DFIs reluctant because of the risk and cost. The sectoral programs of major institutions are often technocratic and out of touch with the realities on the ground. For an African agricultural entrepreneur, obtaining financing is an "obstacle course". ALFA is therefore promoting the creation of an ad hoc mechanism with subsidies to finance preliminary studies, cover appraisal costs, support promoters, and set up appropriate means of financing.
