Promote the development of agriculture, livestock and agri-food in Africa, by facilitating collaboration between the French and African private sectors.
Made up of more than a hundred experienced French public and private organizations and companies operating throughout the agro-livestock value chain, ALFA aims to respond, with its African partners, to the challenges of food sovereignty.
- Promote coalitions of partners and professionalize sector players.
- Advocate for policies favorable to the agricultural sector.
An African challenge
African agriculture faces a colossal challenge linked to population growth, and now the effects of climate change. The recent Ukrainian crisis has once again revealed the structural failures of this sector of activity. However, agriculture is clearly one of the main levers of development on the continent where nearly 70% of the population still lives in rural areas.
The modernization of this sector, in particular through agroecology, digital agriculture, the promotion of efficient value chains and social business, must therefore once again become a priority. It is an economic, social, environmental, security and political issue, not only African but also global.

A word from the President

Since my appointment in 2021 as President of the ALFA Association, ongoing efforts have been made to promote the development of the agricultural sector in Africa, giving a voice to small-scale farmers. It is essential to put private agriculture back on the map in Africa, with the support of French companies.
To protect Africa from geopolitical hazards, it is crucial to develop sustainable and resilient food systems. Africa must not only feed its own people, but also contribute to feeding other regions of the world, notably Europe. The agricultural sector, Africa's largest employer, must be at the heart of development strategies, with a strong involvement of the private sector.
Aware of Africa's enormous potential, some one hundred French agricultural companies have joined ALFA. Together, we support the development of sustainable production capacities and robust value chains to put African agriculture on the path to progress and performance.
ALFA is committed to mitigating financial risks, encouraging investment and fostering agricultural innovation, while working with decision-makers to adopt inclusive development policies. Through our commitment, we aim to bring about positive change for farming communities in Africa, ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future.
