Committees & Commissions

In order to facilitate the tasks that the association has set itself and to respond to the requests it receives, it was decided to organize the work around thematic commissions and country committees. Each of these bodies is led by a leader who constitutes, under his responsibility, a group of ALFA members who wish to be associated with these sectoral or geographical discussions and/or whose skills would be likely to enrich the exchanges and contributions.

Likewise, a commission in charge of financing issues for private companies in the agricultural and livestock sectors works in conjunction with the Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (FERDI).

I spent 30 years in agribusiness in Africa, convinced of its impact on development and the creation of wealth, jobs and support for small farms and SMEs. Agricultural jobs are diversified, favoring training and high wages. However, investment in this sector is often poorly financed, with local commercial and development banks showing little interest, and DFIs reluctant because of the risk and cost. The sectoral programs of major institutions are often technocratic and out of touch with the realities on the ground. For an African agricultural entrepreneur, obtaining financing is an "obstacle course". ALFA is therefore promoting the creation of an ad hoc mechanism with subsidies to finance preliminary studies, cover appraisal costs, support promoters, and set up appropriate means of financing.
