Conference on Innovative Financing for Agricultural and Livestock Entrepreneurs in the UEMOA Zone
Access to financing is a major challenge for agricultural and livestock entrepreneurs in the UEMOA zone. On June 26, 2024, a conference organized by UEMOA, the FERDI “Agricultural Modernization Policies in Africa” Chair and the ALFA association will present a new “blended finance” financial instrument. This system integrates private and public financing to support agricultural and pastoral value chains in Africa.
Agricultural businesses in Africa face difficulties in obtaining suitable financing due to high interest rates, inappropriate financial products and unattainable collateral requirements. UEMOA plans to diversify sources of financing and further involve the private sector to overcome these obstacles.
FERDI offers a “blended finance” investment vehicle, managed by professionals, which combines public, philanthropic and private resources. This fund aims to mobilize more resources, mitigate risks, accelerate the profitability of investments and amplify economic, environmental and social impacts. It could support up to a hundred African companies, thus strengthening value chains and including small family farms.
The conference will present the characteristics and feasibility of this financial instrument, bringing together various stakeholders to discuss and perfect this proposal. Join us on June 26, 2024 to discover this transformative initiative for the agricultural and livestock sector in Africa.
